When hazards are near during the final approach, you want to keep your eyes on where you intend to land and on the path your turns will take. Look in the direction of the landing area and in the direction you plan to turn before you actually turn. This forward-looking gaze helps you judge the glide path, keep a clear landing corridor, and anticipate any drift or obstacles ahead. It also prevents getting fixated on the hazards themselves, which can distort distance perception and timing. While staying aware of airspeed is important for energy management, it doesn’t establish the safe path through the hazard zone. Focusing your view toward the landing point and the turn path supports a smoother, safer approach and final alignment.
